Functional Order: Se-Fi-Te-Ni

Perceiving Functional Axis:

Extroverted Sensing (Se) / Introverted Intuition (Ni)

Lee’s ability to think and react on his feet makes him both a good fighter pilot, an able commander, and comes in handy in a pinch. He’s highly observant of his surroundings; one example is in when he senses terrorists are about to take over the bar, he grabs Tigh’s wife and takes her into the bathroom to get them out of sight, then uses her drink to sabotage the oxygen levels in the bar and set off an internal alarm, as an excuse for Galactica to send in “repair men.” He is easily able to step into command, issue orders, and respond quickly to a Cylon fleet, when his superior officer winds up dead. Lee can also be somewhat reckless, though – he carries on a sexual affair with various military officers, he visits a prostitute in an attempt to reconcile with his past failures, he over-drinks and grows fat when he feels like he has no responsibilities to the fleet, and he pulls a gun on Saul Tigh, leading to his arrest and incarceration in the brig. He shows very little Ni, except in his belief in Roslin as having greater answers to their current problems than his father, and his willingness to be open to her idealism.

Judging Functional Axis:

Introverted Feeling (Fi) / Extroverted Thinking (Te)

Out of all the people on Galactica, Lee is the most principled. He flat out violates his orders when he feels they are morally wrong—when his father sends him to arrest and remove Roslin from the presidential seat, he sees the moral wrongness of the action and commits mutiny. He refuses to reconcile with his father, until he has addressed the issue. Lee feels a sense of guilt in cheating on his wife, and soon wants to stop. He’s a capable negotiator, choosing to give credence to a terrorist’s demands, because he sees them as “reasonable” and wants a fair and honest electoral process. He also broods intensely and doesn’t find it easy to express or admit to his feelings. Lee can also be strong in his Te – he berates Starbuck for not taking orders. Whenever he’s upset, he tends to lash out with Te and correct her behavior, rather than admit to his jealousy. His father trusts him to come up with effective battle plans and to carry out missions competently.

Enneagram: 3w2 self-preservation

Lee is hard-working and able to keep a cool head in a conflict. He is proud of his accomplishments and does not want to lose face, which sometimes means acting out in ways destructive his own emotional state – after a night spent with Kara, he assumes they will marry and stay together. When she marries Anders the next morning, to save face and show her he doesn’t care, Lee proposes to another girl, leading to his own unhappiness. He appears to become whatever the situation needs, mediating between the president and his father, standing up for the prisoners on the prison ship, and adopting a neutral attitude in any kind of conflict. The first few episodes of season three show a disintegration into 9 – out of unhappiness and uselessness, Lee becomes “fat and lazy.” His wife says he has lost his natural confidence. He gains weight, becomes pessimistic, and unmotivated to change. His 2 wing is generally helpful, but doesn’t go out of its way to solicit affection.
